October. Up there with May (the birthday month), it has to be my favourite month of the year, in my favourite season of the year: Autumn. The season of light layers, playful textures and the first time since summer that you get to wear your favourite chunky knits but still get away with a bare leg.

Colours this season are making an impact (as are florals, chenille, statement suits and sleek silks). On par with statement red (seen everywhere from ankle boots, to statement blazers, coats and head-to-toe power suits), emerald – and green generally, in its various hues of olive, mint, jade, teal –  is one of those impact colours. I paired this statement trench with a simple black bodysuit (to help block out that fresh autumn chill), a vegan suede mini, and my favourite suede booties.

Mixing textures, and pairing statement colours like this eye-popping green with neutrals, tones the colour down for an everyday touch but still catches your eye (like it did with me, when i fell in love with it in store!).

Practical tip: as a Vancouverite, we all know that “40% chance of rain” actually means 100% –  the downpour I got caught in about 2 minutes after these were shot is proof, and has me thinking twice about risking my suede boots!

Colour-Contrast collab with StreetScoutMe

I had so much fun shooting with Sabrina and Jeremy from streetscout.me a few weeks back, before fashion week and when there was definitely still a brisk winter chill in the air. We decided to shoot at Lafarge Lake, with the beautiful fountains and not-yet-blooming winter trees. The sun was deceptively shining – teasing Spring temperatures that hadn’t quite made an appearance – but it made for a beautiful setting, and was perfect for Jeremy’s amazing photo-taking skills.

Sabrina had asked to shoot me in a fashion week inspired look, and also me a few questions related to my style, which you can find the answers to, along with more photos, here. Colour-contrasts are great for high-impact looks that demand attention. I sometimes find myself playing it safe when it comes to my colour combinations, opting for prints or jewellery to be the standout aspects of an outfit rather than eye-popping shades, so I was glad to have the chance to bring back some major contrasting. Pleats and midi-lengths are very feminine (and here to stay for the next season, judging from this past fashion-month), and I opted to bring a bit of understated sexiness with the sheer fabrics peaking through the sunlight and studs.

It’s always nice meeting people in Vancouver with similar interests, and i’m so happy to have met such an incredibly kind and talented couple.

Printed Pencils | VFW Day 4

I decided to bring a little work-wear for day 4 at Vancouver Fashion Week, teaming a timeless chambray with an office-appropriate printed pencil skirt. Casual fridays at the office allows a little more flexibility with my outfits, which means stepping away from corporate greys & bringing in a bit more colour, and creating an easy transition from day to runway.

Although I missed my front-row partner in crime, as Ryan decided to make a couple of catwalk appearances (he rocked the runway, by the way), it was so fun getting to spend the afternoon watching the shows with Sabrina and Jeremy from streetscout.me. As you can see from the first photo above, the pouring rain didn’t stop Jeremy from snagging an awesome shot – in 10 seconds, flat! Ryan quickly joined us for the last couple of shows and his off-duty model style was at it’s best: showing us all how to be masters in layering.
