Winter has come at us Vancouverites in full force this year, with uncharacteristic sub-zero temperatures and surprise snow falls. But along with the arctic tundra that is enveloping the city comes the holidays – one of my favourite times of the year. Why? Apart from Love Actually – and endless mulled wine, mince pies, christmas cookies and sparkling city lights – the holiday season means party dressing.

Party dressing can be a little overwhelming especially when you have an event that is neither black-tie nor ugly-Christmas sweater casual. So, here is my take on a semi-dressy party-appropriate outfit, that can go from day to night.

Pairing this silk slip dress with a structured leather jacket strips back the femininity of the look and adds a bit of edge (my go-to combination). Swap in a pair of flat booties or leather loafers for more day-casual comfort and for those dressier events, a tailored black blazer would lend an air of sophistication underneath the fur gilet (and may be more office appropriate!). To top things off, accessories for me are key as always. So layer on the jewelry, because Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a little sparkle, right?

Amongst the hustle and bustle of the city, I often forget how good it feels to occasionally get away for a weekend. That’s why I decided to drive myself up from Vancouver to the Okanagan: to the valley of vineyards, nature, farmers’ markets and that easy-going lifestyle feel. It couldn’t have been a more perfect way to say goodbye to summer and to welcome in that fresh autumn breeze.

Personally, as much as I love summer – the beach life, late nights & patios – I always get excited for autumn as my ‘new year’. With the changing seasons comes a new outlook, new goals, and most importantly, a refreshed wardrobe; filled with layers, textures, jackets and a plethora of accessories to shield the in-coming winter breeze.

So this impromptu shoot, which took its setting in the most beautiful lavender farm in Peachland, B.C., is an ode to summer – to loose layers; summer whites; cool cottons; and (sadly!) fresh summer wine.

I can feel the change of seasons in the cooling air, shorter nights & falling leaves. Disheartened to say goodbye to the summer sun, I look forward to ‘New Year‘ and what it will bring.

Nothing says, Summer is just around the corner… more than deep blue skies & a farm filled with tulips – as well as playsuits, leather jackets & bare legs! Flowers are one of my favourite things in the world and this Tulip Festival was so breathtaking that I didn’t want to leave. The backdrop of Mt. Baker and the green rolling hills for days made me realize what I miss sometimes being in the city…but not quite enough to leave it for too long 😉

Holiday season is quickly approaching – along with snow, endless Christmas parties & holiday baking – and a pop of red is the perfect hue to make a big impact in the simplest way. Sheer silk brings a bit of femininity and the leather combination keeps the look edgy (and warm in the brisk Vancouver air!).

Summer of Culottes

By far one of my favourite retro pieces, seen on an array of runways this season, is the come-back of the culottes. They are so unbelievably easy to wear, super comfy and can simply transition from a day at the office (paired with a simple sweater or crisp white shirt) to a night on the town (with sequins, heels and a party bag). I love how they embody the airy feel of wearing a skirt but perfectly capture the every day practicality of shorts. Definitely a staple for summer, and perfect for transitioning from the sun-kissed 30 degree weather into the crisp fall breeze.
